Demonstration Using Potassium Iodide and Lead Nitrate
 

 

 

 

In a chemical reaction, matter cannot be created or destroyed. The total mass of the reactants will always equal the total mass of the products in a closed system.

 

A simple demonstration of this concept. Reactants and products are weighed.

 

Lead Nitrate + Potassium Iodide --> Potassium Nitrate + Lead Iodide

Pb(NO3)2 (aq) + 2KI (aq) --> 2KNO3 (aq) + PbI2 (s)
